An Institution in Old Montreal

Rather than chasing trends, Hotel St Paul has an unmistakable style rooted in 25 years of hospitality excellence. The quality, simplicity and flair of our design and service make Hotel St Paul an institution in its own right.

Our History

Our hotel is housed in a 10-storey Beaux-Arts building in the heart of Old Montreal. Constructed by Victorian architect Alexander C. Hutchinson in 1901, it originally housed the Canadian Express Bank and Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, before relaunching as Canada's first boutique hotel in 2001. The 119-room property, designed by Montreal-based design firm Borrallo Interiors offers a timeless blend of simplicity and surprise, and an innovative design that maintains the building’s original confidence, security and permanence.

The strong exterior personality of the building inspired the use of simple materials, lightness and space withinto complement the effects of light pouring from every corner.

Our Timeless Interior Design

Created by award-winning Montreal interior design firm Borrallo, our interior creates a smooth and tasteful atmosphere. Inspired by the Canadian landscape, our hotel features a subdued palate of gray-blue shades symbolising the air and sky and natural, mossy tones representing the earth.

When you step into Hotel St Paul, you immediately sense the charm of a truly unique Beaux-Arts Montreal heritage building, and feel welcomed by soft lighting, the scent of green tea and an intimate setting. The bold interior design blends seamlessly with timeless décor, crafted from noble, carefully selected materials.

Curated so that every surface asks to be touched and explored, each curtain, sofa and table has been lovingly custom-designed to create a daring dialogue reminiscent of classic European opulence and glamour. Handmade pieces by local artists, exposed wooden floors and the lobby's Spanish alabaster fireplace complete the scene.
